This Privacy Policy explains how Check-Up Basketball ("Check-Up," "we," "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Check-Up mobile app, the checkupbasketball.com website, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. It works alongside our Terms of Service.
1. Information You Provide
- Account & profile: name, username, email, password (stored securely by our authentication provider), profile photo, bio, and preferences. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those providers.
- Content you create: posts, photos, videos, Score Cam clips and highlights, game scores and stats, brackets, event and court listings, comments, and messages you send to other users.
- Event & booking details: events you host or join, tickets, bookings, and registration information you submit.
- Support & requests: information you provide when you contact us or submit a request (for example, an account deletion request).
2. Device Permissions We Request
The app asks your permission before accessing these. You can change or revoke them anytime in your device settings:
- Location: to find nearby courts and events, power the "Nearby" features, and show locations on the map. You can use much of the app without sharing precise location.
- Camera: to record game video and Score Cam clips, take your profile picture, and scan profile QR codes.
- Microphone: to capture audio with video and to send voice messages in chat.
- Photos: to let you choose a profile picture or upload images and videos.
- Notifications: to send you push notifications about activity, events, and messages.
3. Information Collected Automatically
Like most apps and websites, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical data: device type and operating system, app version, IP address, general (approximate) location derived from IP, and usage and diagnostic information used to keep the Service secure, fix bugs, and improve performance. On the website, we use essential cookies and similar technologies for functionality and analytics.
4. Payment Information
When you buy tickets, pay for bookings, donate, or subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe (card payments) and by Apple or Google (in-app subscriptions). We do not collect or store your full payment card numbers. Those processors handle your payment details directly under their own privacy policies. We receive limited information such as confirmation of payment, amounts, and the last digits/brand of a card for receipts and fraud prevention.
5. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account;
- Power core features — events, bookings, the social feed, messaging, Score Cam, brackets, scores, and discovery of nearby courts/events;
- Process payments, tickets, bookings, and subscriptions;
- Send notifications, updates, and service-related communications;
- Keep the Service safe — detect fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms;
- Analyze usage to improve and develop features;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed:
- With other users: your profile, content, and activity are visible to others as part of the social and event features (for example, a Host can see who registered for their event, and your posts are visible per your settings).
- With Hosts: when you register for or buy a ticket to an event, the Host receives the information needed to manage it.
- With service providers: we use trusted vendors to run the Service, including Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, push messaging, app security/analytics), Stripe (payments), and Apple / Google (sign-in and in-app purchases). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.
- For legal reasons: to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, safety, and property of Check-Up, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if Check-Up is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
7. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period (generally within 30 days), except where we must retain it by law or for legitimate business records.
8. Your Choices & Rights
- Access & update: edit your profile and content in the app.
- Delete your account: from Settings in the app or via our account deletion page.
- Permissions: change camera, microphone, photo, location, and notification access in your device settings.
- Regional rights: depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights. We do not sell personal information.
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (including encryption in transit and access controls through our infrastructure providers) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong password and keep your credentials private.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Users under the age of majority should use the Service only with parental supervision. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Users
Check-Up is operated from the United States, and your information may be processed and stored in the U.S. or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide notice in the app or on the website. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
